How To Keep Snakes Away From Your Home

For some people, there is nothing creepier than a snake slithering across the grass in their home. In general, people just do not like snakes. Other pests like spiders, ants, or even beetles seem okay to deal with, but a snake, that’s a dealbreaker. Forget about it.

If you are a person who doesn’t like snakes and you are looking for a way to keep them out of your yard, then I have some tips for you.

  1. Chasing it away

You don’t. Chasing a snake away is a sure-fire way to make sure that they bite you. By threatening the snake in any way, they are forced to defend themselves. You can try to spray the snake with a water hose, but be sure to keep your distance. Otherwise, call in some professionals to help you remove the snake from your yard.

  1. Use snake repellant

Ammonia works well at keeping snakes away. You can soak rags in it and place them in unsealed bags around your yard. You can also try cinnamon, peppermint, and/or clove, as they do not like these smells. To keep them out of your garden, make sure you have planted plenty of lemongrasses.

  1. Summer pool snakes

During the summer, snakes like to be in the pool just as much as people do. Make sure you are checking your pool regularly for snakes. You can also pour some white vinegar around the perimeter of your pool to keep snakes and other bugs away from it. Since snakes soak up liquids into their skin, they won’t glide over the pungent vinegar.

  1. Save your hair

When you clean out your brush or your comb, save the little hairball that comes from it. Snakes don’t like humans either, so when it comes to keeping them at bay, it can be as simple as letting them know that you are there. Just drop the little hairball around the boundary of your home and snakes will keep away, due to the smell.
