Top Pests Popular in Fall

While the colder months tend to cause a lot of pests into hibernation, there are some pests who stay out all year-round.

Rodents

Rodents are a pest that stays out all year-round. They are both an indoor and outdoor pest and they are pests because they like to get into our foods and contaminate them. Rodents carry a lot of different types of transmittable diseases such as salmonella, Hantavirus and even, the plague. Rodents are even more annoying because they multiply rapidly, causing one rodent to become many in a short time. During the colder months, people tend to find more in their homes because they are trying to escape the bitter cold. It’s often easier to find food indoors during the colder months as well.

To prevent rodents from entering your home, be sure to seal gaps or openings around your  home’s exterior and make sure all window screens are intact. Rodents love to burrow in piles of trash or debris, so it’s important to make sure your yard is clear of both. Check your basement and attic for any possible entrances.

Ants

Ants never rest and they are always trying to collect enough food. This means they are continuously searching for a way into your home. If it’s raining or cold outside, your chances of finding ants in your home increases substantially. They tend to search for water, most of the time.

To prevent ants, make sure you are cleaning your kitchen after every meal. Be sure to check walls and windows as ants do not travel alone and it can be easy to identify a trail. Also, check places where water tends to collect, such as the kitchen or bathroom.

Spiders

Spiders do not hibernate either and the colder months will bring them indoors. So now, they are laying eggs in your home or garage. Spiders are bittersweet because they can lay dozens of eggs in your home, but they can also protect your home from other pests.

To prevent spiders, you have to eliminate their food source. This means calling in pest control and getting rid of all the pests in and around your yard.  Spraying water with mint infused in it around your home can also help to keep spiders away.

Bees

Bees come out more in the fall so they can prepare for the winter months when it becomes impossible for them to fly around because it’s too cold. Wasps are more active during this time as well.

To prevent bees, you simply should just leave them be. Bees are great for our ecosystem and they are dying by the hundreds. So, it’s important to let them do what they are best at, pollinating. However, a natural way to repel bees from your home or garden is to grow peppermint or cinnamon plants.
