How to Get Rid of Squirrels

The Wildout Animal & Pest Removal experts can help you get rid of squirrels, just give us a call.  Whether they have invaded your attic or have overrun your lawn, we can help.  Most of the situations that require our help involve squirrels in your attic.  Squirrels in the attic are very noisy and can create a dangerous, costly problem.  Squirrels, being rodents, gnaw incessantly.  There are a lot of things in your attic (wires, pipes, ac ducts, etc.) that you do not want to be gnawed on. Squirrel removal from the attic space is a five step process.

Step 1: A Thorough Free Inspection

Squirrel removal begins with a deep investigation into the problem.  Squirrels cannot be removed from an attic space until we know how they are getting in and how long they have been accessing the building.  With a thorough inspection, we can answer these questions, and many more, so we can develop the right plan to solve your problem.

Step 2: Get Rid of the Squirrels

Squirrel trapping is not usually a complex process. However, it is not uncommon to catch random squirrels from the property that may not be a part of the problem you are experiencing.  Our professionals have the ability to focus trapping efforts on the problem squirrels.

Critter eviction is an essential part of a quality squirrel control process.  First, we will seal all of the potential weak points that are not currently being used by squirrels.  Then, once trapping is complete, we will close the entry points the squirrels were actively using to access the building.  We use the best materials available.  We also do our best to avoid negatively impacting the appearance of your home or business.  After we finish the critter eviction process, your property will be better than new construction and will stand strong against multiple animals.

Step 4: Critter Repellent Squirrel Control

Although we use the best processes available to get and keep squirrels out of your home or business, they are rodents and can gnaw through steel or concrete.  It is impossible to “squirrel proof” your property.  In order to ensure you do not have a reentry problem, we will apply a deterrent product on a regular basis.  During the application we will closely check all the entry points we sealed up and make sure they have not been compromised.

Once squirrels have entered your attic space, they have trampled and pooped on your insulation.  They may also carry viruses with them.  Our attic clean up process will eliminate viruses, remove and breakdown droppings, and reinstall insulation to make your attic space as good as new.

Damage Squirrels Cause

Squirrels are nice to observe when taking an afternoon walk in the forest or park. However, noticing their presence in your home or other property is not the best sign. Even though we often see squirrels as cute and harmless, they belong to the family of rodents and can leave the same amount of damage to your house as rats or mice. Below, we discuss the troubles squirrel infestations can cause.

Destroyed Wood and Other Building Materials

As rodents, squirrels’ teeth never stop growing, which means these animals have a constant need for gnawing and chewing. When dealing with a squirrel infestation this becomes a huge problem, as the animals can cause a lot of damage to your wooden structures, walls, external parts of your home, or insulation. Very often, these pests chew through the structures and create holes that help them with leaving and coming back whenever they please. This also leaves easy access for other wild animals searching for shelter. This is quite a costly aspect, as repairing or replacing building materials is not exactly cheap and if the squirrels treated your attic as their home for a long period of time, the damage can be very extensive.

Damaged Wires

Squirrels’ habit of gnawing also can lead to the damage of wires. This, on the other hand, can not only be annoying to fix or replace but more importantly, can lead to fire hazards. If you don’t inspect the damaged space carefully and leave the wires exposed, there is a big risk as the wires can spark and start a fire.

Nesting Materials

It all depends on what exactly you have in your attic or other place where the squirrels decided to reside. Most of the time, these rodents hide in your attic in order to create a safe nest. They may use the insulation or bring nesting materials with them – such as leaves and debris.  It doesn’t pose a risk, but it is definitely quite time-consuming to clean.

Feces and Urine

This is a common problem with most pest infestations. Squirrels, just like rats and mice, leave behind a lot of waste that not only can cause odor problems, but also can carry diseases that can be dangerious.

  • The excrement can be the source of harmful bacteria or pathogens, so it’s crucial not to touch them.
  • The smell can attract other pests, such as cockroaches, or create a perfect spot for mold to grow.
