Five of The Worst Summer Pests

As the weather starts to warm up, insects come out from their hibernation to search for food. It is also the time of year for mating. Insects are necessary to our ecosystem, so it’s important not to always use treatments that kill them off.  Alternatively, they can be a literal pain in the neck for homeowners and business owners alike.

Top 5 Worst Summer Pests

  1. Mosquitoes: We have all dealt with mosquitoes at one point or another. They buzz around your ears or silently settle on your arm/ leg and start draining your blood. They are the eptidomity of the definition of the word pest. These little insects can carry all types of different diseases for humans so you don’t want them hanging around your yard. Their population peak is in June, so it’s important to have some prevention methods in place before the start of summer.
  2. Ants- Ants can be found outside the home or inside. Where there is one, you’ll soon find a dozen or more. Infestations generally peak around the end of July, so it’s important to take precautions before the season even starts. One great way to take precautions is by properly sealing and storing food.
  3. House Fly- House flies are attracted to anything that is sweet that is lying around the kitchen or pantry. Flies carry and transmit diseases to humans and some of them have been known to bite. To keep flies away from your kitchen, make sure you are always wiping down your counters and disinfecting.
  4. Ticks: People who have a dog or cat will find they might have a tick issue during the summer months. Anytime a pet owner takes their pet to the park, they should understand that they are allowing  the potential for their pet to pick up a tick. Ticks can transmit life-threatening diseases. For prevention, check your pets frequently if they have been outside, even for a short while. If you find any, remove them immediately with tweezers and magnifying glass.
  5. Termites: During winter months, termites like to go underground and hibernate, but during the warmer months they are out in full force again. If there is a nest near your home, they could start to eat the wooden structure that supports your home.
