Five Spooky Pests

Five Spooky Pests

Halloween is just a little more than a month away and that means spooky season has officially arrived. We all know that creepy crawlers are associated with Halloween, but what about other types of spooky pests?

Five Types of Spooky Pests:

  1. Rats

Rats are in just about any type of thriller/horror show available online. They are mostly nocturnal and can nest in many different places. They fit through an opening that is the size of a quarter. Once they are inside one’s home, they can spread a myriad of diseases.

With Halloween just right around the corner, be careful of boxes used for decoration as rats love to make these warm places their new homes.

Spooky Fact:Rats teeth never stop growing

  1. Bats

Bats are notoriously known for Halloween and are generally associated with vampires and haunted houses. They have caused fear in people for hundreds of years. Bats are nocturnal and like to hide away in dark, cool places like attics. They also love caves. It’s important to keep a lookout for bats as they carry and can transmit rabies.

Spooky Fact:Bat droppings can be used to make gunpowder.

  1. Spiders

What is Halloween without a few spiders? While spiders are feared, there are only a few types that people really should be afraid of: brown recluse, black widow and the hobo spider. Usually spiders like to hide in the attic, garage or in the basement. When moving your Halloween decorations from these areas, make sure you are always using heavy gloves.

Spooky Fact: Spiders are everywhere…

  1. Bed Bugs

Closely associated with vampires due to their blood-sucking ability, bed bugs are the worst. This is mainly due to the fact that they are so hard to get rid of, like lice. While many times these little biters are in beds, they can be found in purses, laptop cases, luggage and other personal items as well. While they do not transmit diseases, they can leave very itchy, red welts on the skin.

Spooky Fact: Bed bugs have evolved for the sole purpose of sucking blood.

  1. Cockroaches

For Halloween decoration, you will find tons of different-sized cockroaches. But, we don’t really need the fake ones when there are plenty of real ones crawling around. Cockroaches transmit a lot of different types of diseases due to their unsanitary nature.

Spooky Fact: Cockroaches can live for a week, without their head.
