The Aggressive Rats and Other Covid-19 Pests

The Aggressive Rats and Other Covid-19 Pests

Most restaurants closed down this past May and many of them have not opened back up for business. This has caused quite a stir among the rodent world. In fact, many rodents were found to be showing “unusual or aggressive” behavior in their search for food, according to the CDC. They have even turned on each other and become cannibals. However, they do not appear to be aggressive toward humans.

Covid-19 has impacted so many people’s lives and it continues to be a thorn in people’s sides as we brace ourselves for a summer without family gatherings and events. Now, it’s possible that businesses will start to close up once again as the virus rates continue to rise on the daily. This means that our rodent friends will once again be on the search for food. Will they return back to their aggressive behavior? Only time will tell.

For now, we can all focus on ways to keep ourselves protected from the wacky world of rodents and insects.

Mice/Rats

These rodents carry and spread over 35 different diseases. Usually, the transmission is picked up by handling rodent feces, urine or saliva. Diseases can also be transmitted through bites. However, some diseases are spread through ticks or fleas that ride on the fur of these rodents. Therefore, they are just all-around bad for your home or business and you want to get rid of them as quickly as possible. In times of food struggles, rats and mice will boldly search during the day for food in the street (in packs) and they can even be found in car engines too.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are the most common type of insect when it comes to food-handling businesses. They are small and can squeeze or hide into any tight space. It is commonly said that they could survive the apocalypse because they are that resilient. On top of all that, they are rapid reproducers and carry diseases too!

Flies

Flies are everywhere and they are one of these most pesky insects out there. They are attracted to decaying proteins and vegetable matter, which means they can easily spread disease. They also continuously pick up fecal matter and urine, so they are constantly spreading something on what we eat or drink.

For Prevention

Be sure to seal up food, take out the garbage frequently and clean up debris as quickly as possible. One lonely fry that skids under the stove can attract so many different types of pests. It’s also recommended to remove any pet and bird feeders from lawns.
